Behind the Scenes: The Heritage Collection Lookbook

The Spring/Summer 2020 Heritage Collection was inspired by Zapotec culture and the village of Teotitlan del Valle, where the majority of MZ's artisan partners live. We go in depth on the process of creating the line in our latest blog post if you'd like to learn more!

Naturally, we wanted to shoot the lookbook within the same context that inspired the bags. The concept was to show how the colors and textures of the Zapotec village are mirrored in the bags, and to share a bit more of the story behind the designs.

For the model, we worked with the lovely Noemi of Talento Espina. Talento Espina is a brand new Oaxaca-based modeling agency with the mission of promoting models who represent the diverse beauty of Oaxaca. We felt aligned with their mission, and that this was the ideal collaboration for this project.

The lookbook was shot by our longtime friend and local photographer Chucho Potts. The wardrobe was provided by Marchanta, a Oaxacan boutique that features Latin American designers. The shoot was styled and directed by MZ Marketing Director Hannah

We loved bringing these bags to life through the lookbook. It felt like coming full circle, to finally get a chance to shoot the finished products in the very location where they began. Scroll through to see some of our favorite shots, as well as some behind-the-scenes captures!

And now for some behind-the-scenes shots!
